Chase's first big adventure!

Chase is rockin and rollin in his first big adventure. He competed in his first hunt test in Indiana two weeks ago getting his first two passes, and as you can see he is sitting on the porch of his home away from home in Coshocton, Ohio at an Air B&B. We are at another hunt test and on Saturday Chase got his third Junior pass . He was a little excited and his work wasn't as good as it could be but he passed. Sunday was a chance to get his 4th pass and get his junior title but it was not to be. His first three birds were handled as good as any retriever could have done. His fourth bird should have been automatic for him as he had made retrieves like that forever but as he swam out to the bird it damn near sunk and he couldn't see it. I thought the judges would give him a re-run but they said nothing so neither did I. It made it easier for me to accept defeat in this case, as while he should have found it there was no doubt it was a very poor bird. This was my first fail in any hunt test I have ever done and I was pissed. I have no doubt Chase is going to probably fail many more test before he is done. He is just so immature and reacts far to quickly at this stage of the game. No way will I give up on him as I really think by the time he is three he will be a dog to reckon with.

Chiloe was taken out of retirement from the Addison's disease and put back into the hunt test game and so far has not disappointed. I figured if Chase was running so would Chiloe as he still runs as good as all of the dogs we train with. I put Chiloe right into Masters class and he stacked up a pass in Indiana and here in Ohio as well. He just gets it.....all tests use real birds and my boy ain't letting a chance to retrieve a REAL bird go to waste. LOL His run in Ohio was damn near as perfect as you could get. Coming back to our cabin was interesting as it had no running water, no electricity, no shower. The boys didn't mind one bit.
