Chase came through in a big way at the Backwater practice last weekend and did something Chiloe has never done. They put on a 50/50 retrieve and also a Speed retrieve competition. The 50/50 is where they lay down several black/white bumpers and 2 orange bumpers and then throw an orange bumper. If your dog picks up a white one you are out of the test. Chase outlasted every dog including his big brother and won the event! The last bird was hilarious as it was like he was bored and blew by all the bumpers and ran around a second before turning back and picking up an orange one for the win. LOL This is all pure luck but it's the first time I have picked up the money at the end!! We will take it.
The speed retrieve is a different story. They threw 3 marks ( very hard ones at that) and once you send your dog they time him until he gets back to you with the dummy. I knew he was my only chance to do good as he is much faster then Chiloe and lets face it, Chessies are not made for these kind of tests. I still entered Chiloe but Chiloe did a piss poor job on the first bird and was out of contention by the time he got back in. Not Chase, as he friggin pinned all 3 marks and got his ass back to me pronto. He ended up with a 3rd place out of it and a very proud dad. As I said, these were tough marks and even if he would have not placed just pinning the marks was good enough for me. First time he has shown up his brother on a big stage. I think there are going to be more chances of that as he continues to mature but we will see. As I said , I was quite proud of his accomplishment. Way to go Chaser.
